Clothing with a purpose

As we know, stores and merchandise go pink in October in support of breast cancer. From blenders to football gear, if it exists, it’s likely available in pink this Lands End scarf editmonth.

One company, Land’s End, is partnering with a US based organization, breastcancer.org, to donate a portion of pink embroidery proceeds to support breast cancer research. This scarf, right, is one of the company’s CashTouch Plaid Scarf, new for fall, and monogrammed with my initials in pink. At only $33.95, it makes a perfect gift – and I have to say, the fabric is incredibly soft and luxurious.

Land’s End has done more to help combat cancer. For example, it offers a selection of swim tees that work to protect against harmful UV rays, a contributing factor in skin cancer; a product that has been endorsed by the Skin Cancer Foundation in the US. The swim tees area meant to be worn while swimming and also provide coverage for women who have endured a mastectomy or other surgery.

This kind of care and concern – for a range of women who battle cancer – means that your purchases have greater meaning beyond the acquisition of a new garment. These days, corporate social responsibility is sought after by many today who look for more from their apparel than just a label.

If you’re looking for something, check out Land’s End to see the quality clothing with purpose. You can shop online: the company ships to Canada and the site has pricing in Canadian dollars. http://www.landsend.com

NOTE: Land’s End provided the scarf to me as a gift.
